How to choose the best Essex wedding bands!

Tips for choosing wedding bands in Essex, Suffolk & East Anglia.

I’m Tracy – Wedding & Events Singer. I’ve been singing at weddings, parties and all types of events for over 20 years. A big part of my experience has been fronting some of the best Essex wedding bands with some hugely talented musicians. So, I thought I’d put all of that experience into a blog to help all of you brides and grooms decide how to choose the right band for your special day.

There is a huge range of choice when it comes to wedding bands in Essex. Different ranges of experience, different styles, different sizes, acoustic options, the list goes on! So let’s break down how you can find one of the best Essex wedding bands for you!

1. What kind of music do you like?

This has to be the first question! What style of music do you listen to? If you like Soul and Motown then an Indie Rock band probably isn’t going to be for you! If you’re not sure on a particular style then make a list of all the songs and artists you like as this will help you work out what you want. Do you want a band with a horn section or do you like acoustic bands with an upright bass? Do you prefer the sound of a female or male singer?

2.Pick a band that’s versatile.

Once you’ve decided what style of music you like, it’s equally as important to envisage what your guests will dance to as well. As a couple, you might love heavy metal but will that get your Gran on the dance floor?! It’s important that you choose what music you want but if you want your guests to dance and stay for the whole evening then you do need to think about that as well!

So, if you want a lad band that play pop punk then that’s absolutely fine as it’s your day! But maybe find one of the wedding bands in Essex that can also play other styles so that you can have a few party classics thrown in for good measure & that will guarantee that your dance floor stays full!

My band goes out under a range of names when people want a specific style. For example, I have an 80’s band and a country band. But, my main band, ‘Old Skool’ can play all of those styles. I believe this makes us one of the best Essex wedding bands as we can cater for so many tastes, but please have a look and decide for yourself!

3. Decide on your budget.

Just like every other part of your wedding you will need to have decided on how much budget you want to put aside for your evening entertainment. Wedding bands in Essex can range from £300 to £20,000! Although, I wouldn’t class a band at that lowest price as an experienced wedding band! Maybe you’d be happy with a few of your Dad’s mates that play the local pub to come and have a go but you are not going to get an experienced band that will set up discretely & have all the correct insurances and PAT testing in place. Also, that top price is extremely excessive but trust me, there are bands that charge it! However it doesn’t necessarily mean they are the best! Essex wedding bands come in all different sizes so if you want a bigger band remember that will cost a bit more. If you decide you want one of the best Essex wedding bands then you will need to pay a certain amount for a quality product but there are also some bands that will try to take advantage! I have starting from prices on my website which might give you a rough idea.

4. Look at some band websites & social media.

Once you’ve decided what style of band you are looking for you can look around at some promo videos and most importantly some live video clips. A lot of wedding bands in Essex will not be performing in local venues. This is because the best Essex wedding bands will be booked up performing for private weddings and events. So don’t assume you’ll be able to go and see a band live before you book. This is why it is important to check out lots of clips & read their reviews.

All professional wedding bands will have a main promotional showreel. These cost us a lot of money and take a long time to produce. However, I would also advise you to find live videos. This is because some promo videos can feature instruments that aren’t automatically included in the normal line-up, extra backing singers and in some cases they can be so highly produced that the band doesn’t actually sound like that live at all. For example, if you are watching a 4-piece band but can hear trumpets and saxophones then that will probably be on a backing track.

Note – Lots of bands do this! It might mean you can have a bigger sounding band for the price of a smaller band. But, if you want a band with real live authentic horns then I can help you out with that!

5. Ask for quotes & check out package deals.

Fill in a few enquiry forms and get some quotes. Try to give as much information on the form as possible such as where your wedding is, how long you want the band to play for, even any special songs etc. The more information you can give will help you get a realistic quote.

Top Tip – Check out if the band offer any package deals. For example, a lot of bands offer a complimentary playlist during their break so you can save money on hiring a DJ as well. Or, does the band also offer solo singer or acoustic options for earlier in the day? Often, the best Essex wedding bands can offer you a whole day of entertainment and the more that you book, the better deal you can get!

6. Choose a local band.

Try to choose a band that is reasonably local to you. If your wedding is in Essex then there are plenty of amazing wedding bands in Essex which could play for you. If you choose a less local band then be aware that you will incur travel costs, possibly accommodation costs and it could be risky overall in case of travel issues on the big day which make it less likely that your band will be there in plenty of time.

7. Double check with your venue.

It’s worth double checking that your venue doesn’t have any restrictions linked to live music. Make sure that there is enough space in the performing area for the size of band you have chosen. Also, and this is a big one! Check if the venue has a sound limiter. Ask what it’s set at and where it is located. You’ll need to let your band know about this as this might be the deciding factor if they can perform for you or not. I have performed with a 7-piece band with brass section at venues with sound limiters before so it is do-able! (Check out Copdock Hall – a gorgeous Suffolk wedding venue where the sound limiter wasn’t an issue at all!) Some venues only allow bands with electric drum kits and some only allow the band to use their in-house PA system so be aware! A lot of the best Essex wedding bands will want to use their own equipment so that they sound perfect for you.

8. Choose an experienced wedding band.

There are so many wedding bands in Essex to choose from. But the best Essex wedding bands are ones that are experienced with playing weddings. You want the band to sound great, obviously! But you also want a band that knows what a wedding day entails. You want a band that will arrive with plenty of time and have top quality equipment. A band that can set up discretely whilst speeches are taking place and don’t bang their drums as loud as possible to do a sound check! A bride once told me that she didn’t even know our band had arrived! We were just all set up and ready for when it was time to play!

You also need a band that will go with the flow (within reason)! Weddings are famous for running late so you don’t want to battle with a band that says “sorry, you only booked us until 10pm, we’re off now” after only 1 set.

Choose a band that can read the room, switch things up if certain songs aren’t working, fronted by a singer that interacts well with you and your guests.

Hello! I’m Tracy, a professional wedding singer based in Colchester, Essex. I’m one of a number of wedding singers in Essex who you could book to sing at various moments of your special day. I’ve also been writing a number of blogs to help you plan the music for your wedding day.

This blog is about song choices.This is a topic that I see coming up in wedding forums and and Facebook groups time and time again as a wedding singer. Chelmsford couples asking what music everyone else is having to walk down the aisle, Billericay brides wondering what are the most popular first dance songs, or Suffolk sweethearts asking what everyone else is having played as they sign the register.

There are some popular songs that are chosen a lot for a reason. Ask any of the wedding singers in Essex and I bet they will have sung Stevie Wonder’s ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’! This is probably the top choice for couples to walk out of the ceremony room or church – It does what it says on the tin – or in this case song title! But, I also find it quite frustrating when I come across this question so often. Do you really want the same songs as everyone else? Or, do you want your day to be personal to you?

So, I’m going to give you some things to think about when it comes to choosing your music for your wedding day & show you how wedding singers in Essex can help bring the music you love to life!

Think about which singers and bands you love.

Who is your favourite singer? What music do you always play on Spotify? What do you listen to at the gym or in the car, or even in the shower? If you love for example, The Beatles, then shouldn’t they be part of the soundtrack to your day? Maybe you love punk pop or heavy metal but worry that those songs are too loud or heavy for a wedding. This is where having a live singer is perfect. There are so many wedding singers in Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk or wherever you live that can create slower, acoustic versions of the songs you love and make it more wedding appropriate! However, not all of the wedding day has to be slow and romantic. What about a festival themed wedding for your evening reception with a stage and a band? It’s your day – do what makes you happy!

Think about songs that remind you of life’s special moments.

Are there any songs that come on the radio and they take you back to a particular time or place? Your wedding day can include all of the music that has been a soundtrack to your lives, resulting in where you are today – marrying the love of your life! As a wedding singer Chelmsford I want to advise you to think about your favourite music as a child – is there a song that you always remember your mum singing to you? Is there a song that always seemed to be playing when you went on a special holiday? What about a song that reminds you of your first holiday together? A song that was playing when your first child was born or the album you were listening to when you had your first kiss as a couple. These are the special moments of YOUR life so why not use them as the soundtrack to your wedding day?

Which songs should go where though?

If I’ve convinced you to choose more personal songs, how do you choose what should go where? There are so many different parts of your wedding day that can have live music. (I’ve written another blog on this if you need help!) Your ceremony should be romantic, this is the serious part of the day. Have a look at the lyrics of the songs you love. If they are love songs then they will probably work here! If they are not love songs you can still have them! I recently sang at a drinks reception, straight after the ceremony. The bride and groom wanted a party atmosphere & the brief was fun, upbeat songs that the guests can sing along and dance to – not every song needed to be sentimental or have soppy lyrics. This part of the day was definitely a celebration! As is the evening reception, so include some songs there that are just fun and make you want to party!

The songs we want are all too fast!

You do not have to have a ballad for your first dance! Some couples absolutely dread the first dance – a slow song that seems to last forever whilst everyone stands round and watches you attempt to sway to the music! If this is you then don’t do that! Pick a fast song (ideally a personal favourite that means something to you) and have your guests join you after a minute or so. Who says your first dance as a couple has to be a slow one? Make it the start of the best party ever!

But we can’t have a fast song as I walk down the aisle.

I’d agree with that! This is where I come in! (Or any other wedding singers in Essex.) Perhaps the most important aspect of music at your ceremony is the lyrics. If the words of the song say what you want to say and are suitable for your ceremony then you can hire a wedding singer Chelmsford to bring those lyrics to life! Wedding singers can adapt your song to make it slower and play with those lyrics to give them more meaning. Your singer can sing an acoustic version of your song which will be more suitable, match the mood and will mean so much more than just having Ed Sheeran because that’s what everyone else is having!

(Disclaimer – I have no issues with Ed Sheeran! He has some lovely songs that are ideal for weddings! But, if that’s the only time you’re listening to Ed, you have to ask yourself if his music is the right choice for YOUR wedding!)

We know which songs we want! What do we do now?

This is the fun bit! You get to search through all the wedding singers in Essex and find the perfect one for you! Have a look round the internet, look at social media and listen to them sing! Google ‘wedding singer chelmsford’ or Colchester or Ipswich to find a singer that is based not too far from you.Think about whether you want a male or female singer and look at the styles of music you have chosen. If your songs are all indie, acoustic vibes then choose someone that sings in that style. If you’ve chosen lots of different styles then you might need to find a singer that is more versatile and can take you through from soft sentimental love songs to loud party anthems!

5 Theme Ideas for Your Party by a Tribute Act Essex!

Hi, I’m Tracy – Wedding & Events Singer. If you’re thinking of throwing a party or holding an event then this blog is for you! Are you about to hit a milestone birthday or maybe a special anniversary is coming up soon? Maybe you hold an annual summer barbecue or you’re planning your hen party. Whatever special occasion you’re celebrating, you are probably considering having a party for all your friends and family. I’m here to convince you that you need to make it a theme event!

I can tell you that as a Tribute Act, Essex is becoming more set on having themes for big events. Even when I’m performing at public gigs, venues are booking my theme shows more often recently. This is because giving your guests a theme means they can really get involved with your party. Planning outfits gives the event a sense of purpose and creates excitement. And in many ways, once you’ve decided on a theme, planning can be easier. Colour schemes, food and drink options, the cake and entertainment can all be based around your theme. And best of all, the music! So, you could hire a specific Tribute Act Essex or any number of Singers in Suffolk who would love to get involved performing for you. Or, you could just book a DJ.

Either way, here are my top 5 themes for you to consider for your big event!

1. 80’s Theme Night

A theme based on a decade works particularly well for special birthdays. Maybe you’re turning the big 4-0 and you were born in the 80’s. This one is perfect for you!

Again, guests can make as much effort as they like with their outfits. Think denim, neon, leg-warmers and ra-ra skirts and shoulder pads. I always prefer to find something more authentic and Vinted has been an absolute godsend for me when I’m planning my outfits for my tribute act Essex. Or, for ease you can easily find fancy dress costumes on Amazon. Always thankful for Prime when I’ve left something to the last minute!

I think this is my favourite theme for food (perhaps that gives my age away)! I’d be serving a proper 80s buffet with cheese and pineapple on sticks, vol-au-vents, potato skins and maybe some mini prawn cocktails if I’m feeling extra classy!

My 80’s tribute act Essex is perfect for this theme if you’re looking for entertainment. Having a live singer can really help interact with your guests and encourage them onto that dance floor.

2. Country & Western/Hoe-Down/Cowboys & Cowgirls

Whatever you want to call this theme, you can’t deny the popularity of Country Music at the moment! Whether you’re a classic country fan or you love modern country you can have a playlist of songs by Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Luke Combs and Ella Langley keeping your guests on the dance floor.

The outfits for this theme are easy and I doubt anyone will have to make any costly purchases. Jeans or denim shorts and a checked shirt will be fine. If they’ve got cowboy boots and hats then that’s even better but your guests can make as much or as little effort as they want to. Let’s face it, most of us don’t want to spend out on an outfit that we’ll never wear again.

For food you could have a Texas barbecue instead of a buffet. Serve burgers and hot dogs, or some slow cooked pork or brisket. How about a side of barbecue beans?

And for the music, there are a whole array of singers in Suffolk that can perform Country music well. I offer Country Music as one of my themes. 3. The Swinging Sixties!

Maybe you’re a bit older and the 60’s is more your era? Or maybe you just love a bit of Motown? This one’s for you!

The clothes can be fun for this one! Mini skirts and go-go boots is the iconic look that springs to mind but you could also go full on hippy. Think flower power prints and tie-dye T-shirts. Or the men could wear suits like the early Beatles.

I’ve had to look classic 60’s party food up as I wasn’t around for this one! But apparently it was all about devilled eggs, pate, and cream cheese stuffed into various vegetables. I guess you don’t have to go with the theme fully here! Maybe stick to peace signs and flower decorations and have whatever food you fancy!

If you’re looking for a tribute act, Essex can offer a number of options for this one. Depending on the music you like, you could book a 60’s themed band that play The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Or there are loads of great singers in Suffolk and Essex who sing Soul and Motown. I offer a whole night of Motown and am always happy to add some other 60’s songs in as well if you like.

4. Great Gatsby/Roaring 20’s

If you’re wanting your party to be bit classier then this theme might be ideal. Maybe you’ve hired a gorgeous venue and they are taking care of the food with a range of canapés and cocktails.

The ladies at your party get to wear beautiful dresses, sequins and beads and the men could wear three-piece suits with a pocket square and maybe even a fedora.

For music, this is the golden era of jazz so you’ll be wanting to book a jazz or swing singer or band. Search for singers in Suffolk and Essex that specialise in jazz.

I’m a trained jazz singer so I love it when I get booked to perform jazz. I can do this solo with backing tracks or I work with some fantastic musicians. I also offer a Post-Modern Jukebox (PMJ) set which is where I sing a range of pop songs that everyone will know but in the Jazz/Great Gatsby style. Perfect for your theme and if you like the idea of jazz and swing without normally being a fan of this style.

5. Pirate Theme

Sometimes the theme is fun just for dressing up and gives you a focus on how to dress your venue.

This theme might not be so obvious for food or even music but the photos will definitely look good!

Having a theme just for outfits means that you are free to have whatever food you want. You could hire a pizza van or order in fish and chips. And music-wise you can just have some party classics to get everyone in the party spirit. There are some amazing singers in Suffolk and Essex that you could book to perform for you. Although I’m hoping you might consider me!

How Can I help?

However, a theme can be really good fun! It can break the ice amongst guests that don’t already know each other and it can help you work out what to serve, what to wear and how to decorate your venue. How to Choose Suffolk Wedding Singers

Hi! I’m Tracy – an Essex Female Singer available for weddings and events. If you’re currently planning your wedding and you’ve decided that you’d like to add some live music then you’ve come to the right place!

I cover the following counties as a Wedding Singer – Suffolk, Essex, Norfolk, Kent, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, London and all over the UK!

There is a huge choice when it comes to live music. Should you have a big party band in the evening or an acoustic band? Maybe a roaming band or live sax for your drinks reception? Or, you could get an Essex female singer like me that could cover all day!

But, even if you’ve decided you want a wedding singer, Suffolk still has so much choice! So, here are my top tips to help you choose the best wedding singer Suffolk or Essex has to offer…

1. Think about the singers and artists you already like and listen to.

What style of music do you prefer? Do you both love jazz or do you prefer rock music? Do you tend to listen to male or female artists? A lot of singers will specialise in certain styles so if you know what songs you’re hoping for or at least which genres you want the singer to be able to perform then that will help narrow it down a lot. Try searching for terms like ‘Wedding Singer Suffolk’ or ‘Essex Female Singer’ to see who you can find!

2. Decide which parts of your day you want your Wedding Singer to perform.

Do you want your singer to perform at all the main points of your wedding day or just a part of it? For example, your ceremony. Most vocalists offer various packages so you can book them for the parts of the day you want. Most will also offer a full day package. Generally the more you book, the better deal you will get! 3. Watch & Listen to Clips.

This is the fun bit! Go and look at some singers’ websites and social media accounts. Professional singers will have a polished showreel to show to clients. However, it is also really important to hear some live clips so that you know they can recreate that same sound live and that they didn’t have too much help in the studio! If you have looked at their website, see if you can also find their instagram for some more authentic live footage.

I film lots of my performances and try to put as many clips as I can on my Instagram channel so you can hear exactly what I sound like! Some singers might also have some public gigs near you so you could go and hear them in real life & try before you buy!

4. Work out your budget

You need to work out what you can afford. In the same way that you have a budget for your venue hire, cake, dress and every other part of your day, you should have an idea of what you’d like to spend on your singer too.

Some singers will have prices on their website so you can see straight away if they fit within your budget for a wedding singer. Suffolk venues may also offer discounts for weekday weddings or twilight weddings.

5. Book Local!

Try and pick a singer that is reasonably local. This will save you money as you won’t have additional travel costs or accommodation to pay for. It also makes sense as it could avoid late arrivals and traffic problems on the big day. So if you live in Ipswich then look for Wedding Singer Suffolk or even Essex.

Top Tip – When you’re looking for a Wedding Singer, Suffolk is also a place in the USA so just be careful before you send any enquiries!

6. Does your singer offer add-ons?

Look at what your singer can offer. They might offer options to upgrade to a band in the evening which will give you a different feel for your wedding reception. Some might offer a DJ package which could save you a lot of money than if you were to book with another supplier. It could also save you time and effort liaising with another supplier too.

7. Send some enquiries!

Once you’ve found some singers you like then it’s time to fill in their enquiry forms. You need to try and give as much information as possible here so that the singer can provide you with a realistic quote. The enquiry forms will guide you to add the date, the packages you are interested in, the times and the venue. The more details you can give, the better – so don’t leave any blank boxes!

8. Choose an experienced wedding singer.

Pick someone that has lots of experience. I’ve been a wedding and events singer for many years so I can help guide you with music choices and timings on the day. I know what will work and what won’t. I’ll make sure we’re in contact lots before the big day & then you can trust me to set up without you even noticing, liaise with your other suppliers and entertain you and your guests so that you can get on with enjoying your special day.
